ANZAC: Blood Brothers

Last night we were fortunate to be invited to a museum exhitbit opening, which was within 10 minutes of my house.

My good friend Michael (born in New Zealand) has a keen interest in Military history, especially that of Australia and New Zealand.  He has quite the collection of antique items which were featured in this exhibit, which he did with a friend of his (also owns quite the collection).  The tradition of ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Armed Corps) has always focused on the involvement in wars post the turn of the century, especially WWI and WWII.

However, despite not really having a Federal Army until closer to that time, there have been Australians involved in armed conflict for much much longer - from the Napoleonic Wars, to the American Civil Wars, to conflict in New Zealand, there is a strong, almost unheard of tradition.  Except to both Michael and his friend (who's name escapes me!), who has written a book on the subject.

We were invited along to lend some colour from the era other than the redcoats of the Commonwealth uniforms.  We had a lovely evening, and it was great to be there in support of one of our great friends.. :)  And I got to wear a pretty dress.. hehe
