-facepalm-

So uh..... yay me. I freaked out the other day because my iron kept turning itself off. Ended up buying myself a new one. I NEVER buy a cheap one anymore since I use it for dressmaking more than anything), and I was horrified that they no longer sell the exact one that I have, since it's SO.GOOD Turned the old one on today, momentarily forgetting it was dead... Then I looked at it and realised that the heat was turned down. Turned up the heat dial, and the iron turned on. There's nothing wrong with it at all. It's working fine - and has heated up completely. Sigh. Natural Blonde me.

Planning the Regency Wardrobe Pt 2

So you'll remember this from my previous regency post....

"Saturday Night
Ball night!  Need a new pretty obviously!  But I'm not sure about fabrics or colours.  I want to do this from my stash, but I'm worried that the silks might be a litle too crisp.  But, I don't want it to be too flimsy either since I want to be able to embroider... what's your thought? Green or pink? If I do the pink, I'm tempted to do brown embroidery and tassels, if it's the green, it'll probably be a forest green instead..
"

Today, while looking for something else, I found and purchased my fabrics for the making of this pretty.  I hadn't started, since I honestly did think dupion was too crisp for what I was going to do.

I was digging through the silks for something else, and I came across some habutae..... Pretty much exactly what I wanted to do this out of really.... But, alas no white/ivory/cream..... So I abandoned that and went for my trademark dig through the clearance rack.  And found myself some yummy ivory silk satin for $12/mt.  Ran back to get my habutae and we were in action..

I'm pretty sure I have some embroidery floss and some ribbon in a contrasting purple (ie - from the embroidered lavender bustle!) so yay! At least part will come from stash.  As will the voille for the skirt lining, the silk is quite sheer.  I only have 5mt of each, so hopefully the small train is still doable.. :/

I also got some black voille today to make a black chemise for under my black gown, that way if it shows, it's not as obvious.  This weekend, at the Guild Corsetry workshop, I'll be concentrating on getting 3 chemises and 2 sets of stays done.  And my coutil arrived today too, so yay!

Californian Design... And a new frock!

I'm a little behind, I'm sorry about that.  Going back to work is always a bit busy..

Earlier this month we went to the Art Gallery for another of their exhibits.  This time it was Californian Design, covering 1930s through to the 1960s (although I spotted some 1970s stuffs as well).

I figured that almost everyone would be wearing 1950s, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to make a new 1940s to match my new hat..

I loved the exhibition, so many amazing things to behold!!!  So if you're in Brisbane, you should definitely go see it.  There was a few dresses amongst the displays, and one in particular I'm absoluely dying to make, but it will require the perfect fabric... Once I find it.

I also had a great time as usual with my ACG girls.. :D... Great bunch that they are.

For now, some photos... :)

By the way - I'm still updating the pages of my costumes. Should I be doing the vintage dresses as well? Let me know in the comments.. :)

Second Birthday Dress!

My girls told me last night that I appeared to be making a dress a day so far this year.  I say No!  I didn't make one on New Years Day... so Nyah! hehe

But anyway.  We went out to the Jazz Club for my Birthday last night, and despite the heat outside, we had a great time!  We had cool airconditioning, drinks and coooool jaaaaaaaaaaaaazz...  Terrifically relaxing night out with some of my favourite peeps.. :)

I got my nerdy 1940s dress made... Right now, it's a bit tight, and a tad short, but if I get rid of the christmas pudge (and hopefully some of the rest of the pudge) it'll be fine after I add some kind of frill to it.... :D

And some photos from last night..

Here's some more - via a slideshow.. :D

Happy Birthday to me!

So it's mah birthday.

I obviously need a new dress for today's festivities.  And usually the birthday dress is the first off the machine every year.. ;)

I have another one cut out, that hopefully will be ready for tomorrow night's outing with my girls (and guys!). But for now, the birthday dress!  I'll edit this post with a pic of me in the dress later on..

And as promised, a pic of it on. It's not a great photo, but this was post birthday lunch. I was hot, and kinda flustered, and definitely headachey...
